Minpu Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Minhang District, China
Minpu Bridge is a cable-stayed road bridge spanning the Huangpu River for 1,212 meters with two concrete towers rising about 210 meters high. The structure supports both expressway traffic on its upper deck and local road access on the lower level.
Minpu Bridge was completed in 2009 as a key addition to Shanghai's growing transportation network during a period of rapid urban expansion. The project connected previously separate districts and improved traffic flow across the river significantly.
The bridge design demonstrates Chinese engineering capabilities through its double-deck structure, accommodating both expressway traffic and local road connections.
The bridge provides eight lanes on the upper level for the Shanghai-Jiaxing-Huzhou Expressway and six lanes plus sidewalks on the lower level for Fanghe Road traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the walking paths to cross safely.
The bridge features a specialized stiffening truss system that keeps it stable during strong winds, allowing safe passage across its main span of more than 700 meters. This engineering solution was an advanced technical achievement when the bridge opened.
