Saint Ignatius Cathedral

The church features two 57-meter bell towers, pointed arches, brick construction, and a collection of sixty-four stone pillars sourced from Mount Jin.

Built between 1906 and 1910 by English architect William Dowdall, the cathedral replaced a previous Greek-style church that stood at the same location since 1851.

The structure contains nineteen altars, fourteen images depicting Jesus's life, and stained glass windows that incorporate Chinese characters within traditional religious designs.

Visitors can access the cathedral through Xujiahui Metro Station Exit 3, with services held on weekdays from 06:15 to 07:00 and extended hours on weekends.

During the 1987 filming of Empire of the Sun, the cathedral served as a central location for the opening scenes of Steven Spielberg's production.
