Qian Xuesen Library & Museum

The Qian Xuesen Library and Museum is housed at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and focuses on space science and the life of a major Chinese aerospace pioneer. The exhibition space spans 3,000 square meters and contains over 70,000 items, including manuscripts, photographs, and personal objects that tell his story.

The institution opened on December 11, 2011, coinciding with the 100th birthday of the aerospace pioneer. This date honored his central role in developing missile and aircraft technology for China after 1949.

The red-brick facade along Huashan Road displays an artistic portrait of Qian, incorporating design elements inspired by the Gobi Desert landscape. The interior layout guides visitors through spaces that reflect his life and work in a way that feels personal rather than purely academic.

The location sits at 1800 Huashan Road in Xuhui District and opens from Tuesday through Sunday for visitors. It is best to arrive early in the day, especially on weekends, when visitor numbers tend to be higher.

In May 2024, it became the first and only scientist-dedicated museum among China's 326 first-class national museums. This recognition reflects the importance placed on the pioneer's life and legacy within the nation's cultural landscape.
