The C. Y. Tung Maritime Museum occupies the two-story Xinzhongyuan, a 1910 brick-and-timber building with an external corridor and central courtyard on the Xuhui campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Its 600 m² of galleries are split by floor: the ground floor covers Chinese maritime history from the Neolithic period with maps, photographs and ancient junk models, while the upper floor follows the shipping magnate C. Y. Tung and the ships he built and operated. An iron anchor stands beside the building.

The building was constructed in 1910 as a student dormitory before being converted into a museum that opened to the public in 2003 through partnership with The Tung Foundation. The collection traces China's relationship with maritime trade and seafaring across many centuries.

The name honors C.Y. Tung, a shipping magnate whose family supported the collection. Visitors can trace how his personal story connects with China's maritime trade and seafaring traditions.

The museum occupies the two-storey Xinzhongyuan building on the Xuhui campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with an iron anchor standing beside it. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00. Reach it by metro: Jiaotong University station on Line 11, or Xujiahui station on Lines 1 and 9.

The second floor features a personal collection dedicated to C.Y. Tung himself, with photographs, documents, and belongings that tell his life story. This biographical approach sets the museum apart from typical history exhibits focused solely on objects and events.
