Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei, Research library in Xujiahui, Shanghai, China

The library occupies a two-story building with thirteen rooms, combining European-style arched windows and Ming Dynasty architectural elements in its design.

French Jesuit missionary Claude Gotteland established the library in 1847, starting with three rooms in a seminary before expanding into a larger facility.

The collection includes over 120,000 volumes in multiple languages, featuring Greek, Latin, French, English, German, and Chinese texts across numerous bookshelves.

The facility functions as a branch of the Shanghai Library system since 1956, providing public access to its extensive collection of historical documents.

Two large religious sculptures from the 1850s stand inside the building, depicting Jesuit priests taking vows and the death of St Ignatius.
