Shijingshan is a district in western Beijing comprised of nine subdistricts spread across a large area. Major roads and the subway line 1 connect these different parts to form an integrated urban area.
The district developed as a major center for heavy industry and steel manufacturing, shaping its growth for many decades. In recent years it has undergone significant transformation, shifting from industrial production to modern urban functions.
The Beijing International Sculpture Park displays more than 180 works by artists from around 40 countries, offering visitors a walk through different artistic traditions and styles. The sculptures are distributed across the grounds, creating informal meeting points where people gather and spend time together.
The subway line 1 and S1 train connect the district to central Beijing, while multiple bus routes operate throughout the day. Navigation between the different subdistricts is straightforward thanks to the well-developed transportation network.
The Shougang complex transformed a former steel mill into a sports venue that hosted Winter Olympics events in 2022. The Big Air competitions took place here, demonstrating how industrial spaces were reimagined for modern use.
