Nagqu

Nagqu stretches across 450,537 square kilometers of northern Tibet, encompassing vast grasslands, mountains, and numerous lakes at an elevation of 4,500 meters.

The settlement developed from a small town of clay huts in 1950 into a significant administrative center, marking the convergence of major trade routes between Tibet and Amdo.

The annual Kyagqen Horse Race in August brings together herders and participants who demonstrate traditional horsemanship skills and compete in archery contests.

The Nagqu railway station connects to the Qingzang railway line, providing transportation links between Tibet and Qinghai provinces through the mountain ranges.

The region contains 81 percent of Tibet's lakes, including Lake Namtso and Lake Siling, forming an extensive network of water resources at high altitude.
