Tsing Yi station, Metro and railway station in Kwai Tsing District, Hong Kong
Tsing Yi station is a rail station in the Kwai Tsing District of Hong Kong that combines underground and elevated sections within a single structure. It serves two lines, the Tung Chung Line and the Airport Express, with four platform faces spread across different levels.
The station opened in 1998, first with the Tung Chung Line and then with the Airport Express just weeks later. Both openings were tied to the launch of the new Chek Lap Kok international airport, which required a direct rail link from the city.
Maritime Square shopping center connects directly to the station, so local residents often pass through it as part of their daily routine rather than just to travel. The mix of commuters and shoppers gives the place a steady, lived-in feel throughout the day.
Signs throughout the station are clear and available in multiple languages, making it easy to move between the two lines even on a first visit. Passengers with large bags should be aware that the walk between some platforms can take a few extra minutes.
Tsing Yi is one of the few stations in Hong Kong where underground and elevated platforms sit inside the same building. This layout came about because the two rail lines follow different routes that happen to cross on Tsing Yi Island.
