Lugou Bridge, Stone bridge in Fengtai District, China

The granite structure stretches 266.5 meters across the Yongding River with eleven symmetrical arches and stone railings on both sides.

The bridge gained international recognition when Marco Polo documented it in his 13th-century travel accounts as an exceptional architectural achievement.

The stone lions carved on 281 pillars along the bridge railings display different expressions and positions, representing Chinese craftsmanship.

The bridge functions as a main transportation route connecting Beijing to southern regions, allowing vehicles and pedestrians to cross the river.

On July 7, 1937, this bridge became the location where the Marco Polo Bridge Incident marked the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War.
