Sêrtar County is a mountainous territory in Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, sitting at an elevation of about 4,100 meters (13,450 feet). The region spreads across a large area with numerous monasteries and settlements distributed throughout the high-altitude landscape.
The territory became part of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in 1955 when eastern Xikang merged with Sichuan following the founding of the People's Republic of China. This administrative shift marked a turning point in the region's modern development.
