Palpung Monastery, Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Dêgê, China
Located at 3900 meters altitude in Sichuan Province, Palpung Monastery extends across a mountain platform featuring numerous buildings and dormitories for monks.
The monastery was established in 1727 by the 8th Kenting Tai Situpa Chokyi Jungne and King Demba Tsering of Dege, becoming a center of Buddhist learning.
The monastery holds an extensive collection of 10,000 Buddha statues, 10,000 Thangka paintings, and 32,400 Buddhist texts within its walls.
The monastery welcomes visitors without entrance fees, and a complete visit requires approximately half a day including transportation time from nearby locations.
Three retreat centers mark the first such establishments in Tibetan history, including the Samantabhadra Great Pleasure Retreat Centre for advanced Buddhist practices.
