Sershul Monastery, Buddhist monastery in Sêrxü County, Sichuan, China

At an elevation of 4,000 meters, Sershul Monastery features six temples with great chanting halls dedicated to Je Tsongkhapa of the Gelug Order.

Founded in 1672, the monastery holds a collection of sacred Buddhist objects, including a wooden block and hammer from Nalanda University dating back to Buddha's time.

The monastery operates the only Buddhist Monastic University in the Kham region authorized to grant the highest Tibetan Buddhist geshe degree.

The religious center accommodates 1,300 monks and welcomes visitors who can observe traditional ceremonies while following specific guidelines for respectful behavior.

Within its temples, the monastery preserves one of Je Tsongkhapa's teeth in a sacred chorten located in the upper gallery.
