Sunan Shuofang International Airport, airport
Sunan Shuofang International Airport is an airport in Wuxi that handles both domestic and international flights. The facility includes two terminals connected by a covered walkway, with clear signage in Chinese and English, plus areas for check-in, baggage claim, customs, and immigration.
The airport opened in 2004 and received a new terminal called T2 in 2011, expanding its capacity. Currently, expansion projects are underway to build a third terminal and second runway, increasing passenger capacity over the coming years.
The airport reflects Wuxi's role as a regional business hub and demonstrates the city's economic importance in the Yangtze River Delta. Visitors notice the blend of international influences and local characteristics, including shops selling silk and ceramics that represent typical souvenirs of the region.
The best way to reach the airport is metro line 3, which goes directly to the terminal and takes about 40 minutes. Taxis, ride-hailing apps like DiDi, and shuttle buses to major railway stations are also available, with free WiFi throughout the terminal.
Terminal 1 is reserved for international flights while Terminal 2 handles domestic flights, with both connected by a walkway of about five minutes. This separation lets travelers switch between different flight types quickly without leaving the airport grounds.
