Wuxi

Wuxi is a big city in Jiangsu, China, that extends along the northern shore of Taihu Lake. The metropolitan area covers several districts with modern residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and wide parks along the water.

The city emerged during the Qin Dynasty in 202 BCE after local tin deposits ran out. The Grand Canal connected the area with the north and transformed it over centuries into a trading place for silk and rice.

The name Taihu appears throughout the area and recalls the large lake that has shaped daily life and water supply for centuries. Many residents spend their free time along the waterfront promenades, where teahouses and parks offer places to linger.

The metro connects the main districts and makes travel easier between residential and business areas. The airport lies in the western part and offers connections to other Chinese cities and neighboring countries.

The city operates its own tram line that runs through historical neighborhoods and adds a more traditional transport option to the modern metro lines. Many locals use it for short rides through older parts of downtown.
