Zhao Mausoleum, Imperial mausoleum in Beiling Park, Shenyang, China

The mausoleum complex spans 3.3 million square meters and includes ceremonial gates, stone sculptures, pavilions, and a sacred pathway stretching 1.2 kilometers north to south.

Constructed between 1643 and 1651, this burial site houses Emperor Hong Taiji, the first Qing Dynasty ruler, and his Empress Xiaoduanwen within its sealed underground chambers.

The royal pathway contains three distinct routes: one for deities carrying offerings, another for emperors, and a third path designated for government officials.

The mausoleum opens its gates to visitors as part of Beiling Park, featuring extensive walking paths through forested areas and around lakes in the Huanggu District.

Six carved stone horses stand guard along the spirit way, while pairs of mythical creatures like xiezhi and qilin protect the inner sanctum of the tomb.
