Gongzhu Temple, Buddhist temple in Fanshi County, China.
Gongzhu Temple stands as a traditional Chinese Buddhist complex featuring classic Ming Dynasty architecture with ornate wooden structures, curved eaves, decorative brackets, and well-preserved courtyards arranged along a central axis.
Originally constructed during the Northern Wei dynasty between 386 and 534 AD, the temple was established according to legend by Princess Chengxin and later underwent significant renovations during the Ming Dynasty period.
The temple houses thirty Ming-era Buddhist statues including Sakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha, and Bhaisajyaguru, alongside extensive frescoes covering over 90 square meters that depict various Buddhist teachings and religious scenes.
Located in Xingyuan Township of Fanshi County, Shanxi Province, the temple operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with free admission and requires approximately one to two hours for a complete visit.
Historical records indicate that Gongzhu Temple once held administrative jurisdiction over Mount Wutai, one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains, establishing its significant role in regional religious hierarchy.
