Galaxy SOHO, Galaxy SOHO is an urban complex in Beijing, China (2012)
Galaxy SOHO is a large building complex in central Beijing comprised of four interconnected towers with flowing, curved forms and no sharp angles. The structure houses offices, retail spaces, restaurants, and entertainment areas across 18 floors, with additional underground parking levels.
The complex was designed and built between 2009 and 2012 by renowned architect Zaha Hadid. The project represented a shift in Beijing's urban development by bringing forward-thinking architectural concepts to the city's rapidly changing landscape.
The complex blends modern design with elements inspired by traditional Chinese courtyards, reinterpreted for contemporary use. Visitors experience how the flowing spaces create a sense of continuity and openness as they move through the interior.
The complex connects seamlessly with street level, providing easy access to retail and dining spaces on the lower floors. The flowing design makes navigation straightforward, though the multiple interconnected bridges and passages may seem complex at first exploration.
The complex features underground parking for over 1000 vehicles, keeping the upper areas bright and open, while the roof incorporates a cooling system designed for energy efficiency. This practical engineering seamlessly integrates into the flowing architectural design.
