Lee On Estate, Public rental housing in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong.
Lee On Estate is a public rental housing development in Sha Tin District with five residential buildings located in the Wu Kai Sha area of Ma On Shan. The development provides around 3,600 housing units for more than 11,000 residents.
The estate was built in 1993 by the Hong Kong Housing Authority as the third public housing project in the Ma On Shan region. It was part of the city's expansion efforts to meet growing housing demand.
The residential blocks here, including Lee Fung House and Lee Shing House, show how public housing was designed in Hong Kong during the early 1990s. This architectural approach became a standard model for community development across the territory.
The estate has direct access to MTR Wu Kai Sha station and is connected by covered walkways to shopping areas and other public facilities. Community amenities including schools and healthcare centers are easily accessible throughout the development.
The estate features a distinctive mushroom-shaped tarpaulin canopy over local food stalls, a hallmark detail of Hong Kong public housing that many visitors overlook. This structure provides shelter for daily community dining and shopping activities.
