Chiwan Left Fort, Military fortification in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China.
Chiwan Left Fort is a fortification made of granite and brick in the Nanshan area with multiple gun emplacements along its walls. The structure overlooks Shenzhen Bay and shows a classic layout for coastal defense.
The fortification was built in 1717 on Yingzui Hill and served as a strategic post during the First Opium War under Lin Zexu's command. It played an important role in Chinese coastal defense during that period.
The fort displays Chinese military building methods from the Qing period, with walls and gun positions that remain visible today. You can see how soldiers once monitored the coast from these same spots.
The fort is accessible via a pathway that leads to several viewing points along the fortification. From these spots, visitors have clear sight lines across the bay and the city beyond.
During World War II, Japanese forces modified the original structure and added new military elements. These additions remain visible in the fort's architecture today.
