Sea World is a tourist plaza in Shekou featuring a historic ship at its center that now houses restaurants and entertainment spaces. Surrounding the plaza are international dining establishments and retail venues.

The ship Minghua, built in France, was bought by the Guangzhou Ocean Shipping Company in April 1973 and renamed; until 1978 it carried Chinese personnel aiding Tanzania and other countries. Retired after its last voyage from Yokohama to Shanghai in August 1983, it was sold to the Shekou Industrial Zone and towed into Liuwan in three and a half months to be grounded as a fixed building. On 26 January 1984 Deng Xiaoping visited the renovated ship and was asked to write "Sea World"; that date is treated as the site's opening, though public operation began during the Spring Festival in February.

The culture center here hosts exhibitions and performances that draw people together throughout the year. These activities have made this location a focal point for artistic expression in the city.

The plaza is easily accessible by metro and located near the ferry terminal for regional connections. Arriving in late afternoon allows time to explore the shops and restaurants before evening activities begin.

The nightly fountain show at 7 pm was funded by Water Design Co Ltd., which invested over 30 million RMB in the project. Music, lights, water jets and fire are synchronised in the display.
