Grabstätte der Familie Wang am Xiangshan-Berg, Ancient burial site at Xiangshan Mountain, Jiangsu, China
The Wang family tomb at Xiangshan Mountain is an ancient burial site north of Nanjing featuring multiple stone chambers built according to traditional Chinese architectural principles. The complex displays elaborate stone epitaphs and constructed features that reflect the status and customs of a prominent family from antiquity.
The burial site was founded around 340 CE when Wang Xingzhi, a high-ranking military official of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and cousin of the renowned calligrapher Wang Xizhi, was interred. The complex was later expanded and received national protection status as a cultural heritage monument in 2006.
The tomb features calligraphic inscriptions that demonstrate the advanced writing techniques and mortuary customs of the Eastern Jin period in Chinese history.
The site sits on a forested mountainside north of Nanjing and is accessible on foot, though uneven paths require good footing. Local guides or information signs can help clarify the various grave structures and their significance.
The tomb complex holds the remains of both Wang Xingzhi and his wife Song Hezhi, with her burial occurring eight years after his in 348 CE. This pair of graves demonstrates how high-status families of that era maintained dual burial grounds within a single family compound.
