The National Government Executive Yuan has two sites in Nanjing. At 19 Dongjian Road, part of the Presidential Palace, stand a gate tower and two two-storey office blocks, renovated and displayed as originally arranged. The other, at 254 Zhongshan North Road, is the former Ministry of Railways building, designed by Zhao Chen and Fan Wenzhao and completed in May 1930: reinforced concrete, three storeys, with a double-eaved hip roof of glazed tiles, grey-blue walls and painted brackets and lintels.

The Executive Yuan was established on 25 October 1928 with Tan Yankai as its first president, and was seated in the National Government's East Garden at 292 Changjiang Road (now 19 Dongjian Road) until 1937, when it moved to Chongqing during the war. After the 1946 return to Nanjing it did not go back to that site but took over the former Ministry of Railways building at 254 Zhongshan North Road, completed in May 1930. In March 1949, with the Yangtze within PLA artillery range, Premier He Yingqin moved it again to the Lijizhi Club.

The name refers to the Executive Yuan, the National Government's executive branch, founded on 25 October 1928 with Tan Yankai as first president. At the Dongjiandao site, the gate tower and two two-storey office blocks have been restored and furnished as they were, and are open to visitors as part of the Nanjing Presidential Palace.

The Dongjiandao site is part of the Nanjing Presidential Palace complex and is open to visitors there; the Zhongshan North Road building is used by the PLA Nanjing Political College and is not open to the public. The Dongjiandao site consists of a gate tower and two two-storey office blocks, so allow time to walk between them.

Behind the Zhongshan North Road building stands a garden villa that served as the residence of Sun Fo, son of Sun Yat-sen and a senior Nationalist official. The main building, completed in May 1930, was designed by Zhao Chen and Fan Wenzhao and later housed the Executive Yuan from 1946.
