梅庵

Mei Cottage is a cluster of traditionally designed rooms located in the northwest corner of Southeast University's campus. The building features three spaces connected by corridors that reflect the classical layout of older Chinese residential architecture.

The cottage was built in 1916 to honor the memory of an influential educator and calligrapher from Nanjing Higher Normal School. Between 1921 and 1923, it became a gathering place for an important youth political movement, marking a significant chapter in the building's past.

The cottage became the birthplace of an important school of guqin music, a traditional Chinese instrument. Today, this musical heritage shapes how people understand classical Chinese performance and artistic training on campus.

The building is currently in active use as an exhibition and performance space for the university's arts programs. You can explore the northwest area of campus to find this location, which remains integrated into the university's daily academic life.

The cottage served as a meeting place for political discussions before becoming fully dedicated to artistic education. This shows how a single space can carry different meanings and serve different purposes across generations.
