Shilinxia, Glass viewing platform in Pinggu District, China

Shilinxia is a 12-square-kilometre gorge in Diaowo Village, Pinggu District, about 70 km northeast of central Beijing, with mountains, forests, oddly shaped rocks, a waterfall and old ruins. Its glass platform, a titanium-alloy wheel of 36 glass panels about 26 m across, cantilevers 32.8 m from the cliff at roughly 400 m above the gorge floor.

The site developed as a modern tourist attraction and first opened its doors in 2016. The gorge itself is a natural formation shaped by the river over a long timespan.

The gorge appears in local stories about two lovers who became immortal protectors of the area. These tales shape how people connect with and experience the place today.

Access is via a well-marked path, and the platform comes with safety railings throughout. Visitors should be cautious during windy weather, as the structure sways in strong wind.

The platform is engineered to move noticeably, and visitors feel this effect while walking across it. This quality makes the experience memorable for many people and is widely talked about.
