稼轩祠, Ancestral shrine in Lixia District, China
Jiaxuan Ancestral Shrine is a temple dedicated to Song Dynasty general Xin Qiji, located on the southern bank of Daming Lake with multiple courtyards arranged in a symmetrical layout. The buildings house displays of sculptures, manuscripts, and historical documents related to his life and achievements.
The shrine was originally built in 1904 as a memorial to statesman Li Hongzhang. It was later repurposed and rededicated to honor Xin Qiji, a military leader from the Song Dynasty.
The main hall displays sculptures, books, and exhibits detailing Xin Qiji's accomplishments, with calligraphy by notable figures adorning the entrance and corridors.
The shrine is accessible by a footpath along the lake shore, making it easy to reach on foot. Plan enough time to walk through the different courtyards and take in the surroundings.
A seven-arched stone bridge links the main buildings to a pavilion on the opposite shore, offering striking views across the water. The bridge itself has become a favorite subject for photographers visiting the site.
