Wuhan Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, wholesale market in China
Wuhan Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market was a large trading facility for fish, seafood, and other food products in the city of Wuhan. The site contained multiple halls with hundreds of vendor stalls where tons of goods were traded daily.
The market was established in 1989 and grew into one of the largest trading centers of its kind in the region. It closed permanently in January 2020 after a novel virus spread through the facility.
It offered a wide variety of goods, including exotic meats and seafood.
The location was situated in Jianghan District and could be reached through several entrances. The site is not currently open for public visits.
This place became known worldwide after scientists linked it to early cases of a global pandemic. Despite this connection, it remains unclear whether it was truly the origin point of the outbreak.
