Said to have been founded by the mythical king Orestes, the Brauroneion dates back to the 6th century BCE.
Artemis Brauronia, the deity worshiped here, was the protector of women and girls.
Visitors can explore the ruins as part of the Acropolis in Athens.
Part of UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
