Lac de Tardevant

Lac de Tardevant sits at 2110 meters in the Aravis mountain range, surrounded by limestone peaks and alpine meadows that slope down to the water's edge. The lake fills a natural basin carved into the mountainside, creating a contained water body within the high terrain.

The basin formed during the last ice age through glacial erosion, becoming the only water-filled combe in the region. This geological formation preserves the marks of ancient ice movement in the landscape today.

Local shepherds have used the surrounding alpine pastures for generations, maintaining traditional farming practices in the Haute-Savoie region.

The route starts from Les Confins parking lot and follows a marked mountain trail with steady uphill sections. Proper hiking boots and weather protection are essential, as conditions can change quickly at this altitude.

The water reflects the surrounding mountain peaks on its calm surface, creating a natural mirror of the landscape. This optical effect is most striking when the weather is still and clear.
