Pic de Hourgade

Pic de Hourgade is a mountain summit on the border between Haute-Garonne and Hautes-Pyrénées, standing at approximately 2964 meters in the Pyrenees. The peak serves as a natural landmark separating two French regions and commands views across the surrounding mountain landscape.

The summit was first documented in the 1800s when surveyors and mountain guides systematically mapped the Pyrenees region. These early explorations helped establish the geographical understanding of the border area between the two departments.

Local shepherds maintain traditional paths to Pic de Hourgade, preserving centuries of knowledge about seasonal grazing routes through the mountains.

The climb from Loudervielle is demanding and requires good fitness and mountain experience. Visitors should come equipped with sturdy hiking boots, weather protection, and plenty of water, as conditions at higher elevations can change rapidly.

From the peak, visitors can spot the Nère Lakes far below in the valley, creating a striking contrast to the rugged mountain surroundings. These alpine lakes are an uncommon feature at this elevation and serve as useful reference points for orientation.
