Petit Bargy, Mountain summit in Le Reposoir, France
Petit Bargy is a limestone peak in the Bornes-Aravis mountain range standing at 2,098 meters high. The summit has steep rocky slopes and wide meadows spread across different elevations.
Alpine climbers in the 19th century established numerous routes on the mountain and made it a destination for mountaineers. These early expeditions helped make the region known for climbing.
The mountain is part of traditional Alpine landscapes where herders have grazed livestock on its meadows for generations. This practice continues to shape how the slopes look and how people relate to the land.
The climb from Saint-Bruno parking area takes several hours and is moderately challenging. The trail is generally in good condition, but expect cool temperatures and changeable weather, especially at higher elevations.
The rocky slopes are home to ibex, which you can often spot on good weather days. These wild animals move easily across steep cliffs where humans would struggle to climb.
