Hotel Kvarner, hotel in Croatia
Hotel Kvarner is a hotel building with historicist architecture in Opatija, built in 1884. The white structure with neoclassical features, large windows, and sea views includes the impressive Crystal Hall, whose ceiling is decorated with shining chandeliers and can accommodate up to 950 people.
The hotel was built in 1884 in less than ten months as the first hotel on the eastern Adriatic coast and originally served as a sanatorium for wealthy guests with lung illnesses. After a fire in 1913, it was rebuilt and gained the Crystal Hall, which quickly became a center for events.
The building takes its name from the Adriatic region and reflects the area's connection to health tourism. The Crystal Hall with its grand chandeliers has hosted cultural events and celebrations since 1913, becoming central to Opatija's social calendar.
The hotel sits directly on the Lungomare promenade with direct access to the sea and convenient paths to beaches and sights throughout Opatija. The location offers good connections to the airport and main roads, making it a practical base for exploring the region.
The original design included hot water baths in the northern wing, connected to the main building by a covered corridor called the Wandelbahn. These therapeutic facilities were created for guests seeking healing through Opatija's fresh air and sea breezes.
