Piper's Stones, Bronze Age stone circle near Hollywood, Ireland.
Piper's Stones is a prehistoric stone circle from the Bronze Age standing near Hollywood. The site features sixteen granite stones arranged in a ring formation, with some reaching heights of around two meters.
This ceremonial site was built between 1400 and 500 BCE during the late Bronze Age. It reflects the ritual practices and construction skills of the people who lived in the region at that time.
Local folklore describes a group of dancers and musicians who were turned to stone for dancing on a sacred day. The stones themselves keep this story alive in the memory of those who visit.
The monument sits about 200 meters from the N81 road and can be reached by crossing a wooden stile. From there a path leads uphill to the stones, so sturdy footwear and a few minutes for the walk are recommended.
Several stones display carved patterns and cup marks that show the handiwork of ancient craftspeople. Only five of the sixteen stones remain in their original positions, telling a story of how the place has changed over time.
