Sakhnin, Archaeological site in Northern District, Israel

The archaeological site of Sakhnin, situated at 310 meters elevation, contains ancient stone structures, columns, and water cisterns dating back 3,500 years.

The settlement, first mentioned in Egyptian records from 1479 BCE, functioned as a center for indigo dye production and later became a fortified Roman location called Sogane.

The location features two religious monuments, A-Sheikh Siddiq and A-Sheikh Ismail, which draw visitors from Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities to their sacred grounds.

The archaeological remains spread across multiple excavation areas, with main access routes connecting to the contemporary city of Sakhnin 23 kilometers east of Acre.

Archaeologist Bellarmino Bagatti discovered a tomb in 1961 that multiple religious traditions associate with James the Just, demonstrating the site's multi-faith significance.
