Allahabad Fort

Allahabad Fort sits on the Yamuna River's banks where it meets the Ganges, with sturdy walls and multiple towers forming its main structure. The compound contains several distinct sections connected by pathways and enclosed spaces.

Emperor Akbar commissioned the fort in 1583 as a military stronghold to control the region. Its construction was part of his strategy to secure power along the Ganges valley.

Military authorities control access to the site, restricting visitors to designated areas during the cooler months from October through March. Checking current opening conditions before your visit is advisable since access rules may change.

Within the fort sits the Saraswati Koop, an ancient well believed to mark the source of the legendary Saraswati River. Devotees visit this spot year-round to engage in their spiritual practices.
