Gulmarg Gondola, Cable car system in Baramulla district, India.

This two-stage cable car rises from wooded slopes at the base through a middle station at Kongdoori and continues to the snowy slopes of Mount Apharwat at over 4200 meters. Enclosed cabins carry travelers upward while forested valleys and rocky ridges appear through the windows during the ascent.

The first section opened in 1998 and linked the base with Kongdoori at mid-mountain. Seven years later the second part began service, reaching the upper station on Mount Apharwat.

The Gulmarg Gondola serves winter sports enthusiasts and tourists year-round, making Kashmir's mountains accessible to both local and international visitors.

Access begins at the base station in town where both stages can be ridden one after another. Warm clothing is advisable even in summer since temperatures at the top drop much lower than in the valley below.

The installation ranks among the longest and highest cable car lines on earth and moves up to 600 people per hour across both sections. On clear days passengers see from the highest point the wide panorama stretching across the main Himalayan range.
