Dachigam National Park

The park stretches across 141 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, featuring dense forests, alpine meadows, and high-altitude rivers within the Zabarwan Range.

The park's establishment in 1910 transformed it from a hunting ground of the Maharaja of Kashmir into a protected area for wildlife conservation.

The name Dachigam originates from ten villages that were relocated during the park's creation at the start of the twentieth century.

Located 22 kilometers from Srinagar, visitors need permits to enter the park, with early morning or late afternoon offering optimal wildlife observation times.

The park serves as the primary sanctuary for the hangul deer, an endangered species found exclusively in this region of the Himalayas.
