Ramagundam, Industrial town in Peddapalli district, Telangana, India
Ramagundam is an industrial town in Peddapalli district located on the banks of the Godavari River at an elevation of approximately 180 meters. It spans across the Ramagundam mandal administrative division and developed around mining and power generation facilities.
The establishment of the Singareni Collieries Company in the early 20th century transformed the settlement from a small village into a major industrial center. This shift brought coal mining and power generation as the foundation of local economic development.
The name Ramagundam combines Rama, referencing a Hindu temple in the old city, with Gundam, meaning water springs in the local language. These two elements remain visible in how locals refer to different parts of town.
The town maintains regular bus services through TSRTC and rail connections via the Secunderabad railway division, linking it to larger urban centers. The main areas are walkable, and train stations and bus terminals serve as natural entry points for most visitors.
The thermal power station here ranks among India's largest facilities and supplies electricity to the surrounding regions. Few visitors realize that this station is one of the oldest power plants of its kind operating in the country.
