Kuchaman City, Historical fort city in Nagaur district, India
Kuchaman City is a settlement centered around a fort situated on a ridge at 391 meters elevation, featuring 32 bastions and 10 gates around its perimeter. The fortification defines the character and layout of the entire settlement.
The fort originated in the 9th century and served as a mint for gold and silver coins under Jodhpur rulers. It had previously been controlled by the Nagas, Chauhans, and Rathores.
The fort walls display miniature paintings adorned with semi-precious stones, reflecting artistic traditions passed down by Rajput and Marwari families. These decorative details show how local craftspeople have maintained their skills and methods over time.
The settlement sits between Jaipur and Jodhpur with regular train connections passing through. The location makes it convenient as a stop when traveling between these two larger cities.
Kuchamani Khyal is a performing art form native to the region that is roughly a century old and tells historical and romantic stories. The tradition is expressed through classical songs and remains an active part of local culture.
