Sanghol Museum

The Sanghol Museum is an archaeological museum in Sanghol that displays thousands of artifacts from excavations at the site. The collection includes stone sculptures, pottery, coins, and tools spanning from the Harappan period through later centuries.

The museum opened in 1990 and has displayed findings from multiple periods buried beneath the site since its establishment. Excavations in the area began earlier and revealed layers of settlement and human activity spanning thousands of years.

The museum displays works from the Kushana period, showing how artisans of that era portrayed their surroundings. The objects on view reveal the beliefs and craftsmanship of people who lived centuries ago.

The museum is located roughly 40 kilometers from Chandigarh and is easily accessible by car or taxi. Most visitors should allow a couple of hours to explore the exhibits at a comfortable pace.

The museum preserves rare objects from Buddhist monasteries, including sculptures from the Mathura school of the 1st and 2nd centuries. These works come from a period when Buddhism was spreading through the region and artists were creating new artistic forms.
