Somajiguda, Commercial district in Hyderabad, India.
Somajiguda is a commercial neighborhood in the western part of Hyderabad, India, where banks, car showrooms, medical clinics, and retail shops line the main roads. It sits at a crossroads connecting several major districts of the city.
The name of the neighborhood comes from Sonaji Pandit, a revenue officer who worked in the Raja Rai Rayan estate in Hyderabad around the middle of the 19th century. Over the following decades, the area gradually shifted from an administrative zone into one of the city's busiest commercial centers.
The main street is lined with family-run jewelry shops that sell both traditional gold ornaments and contemporary designs. Buyers from across the city come here specifically for this trade, making it one of the most visited shopping stretches in Hyderabad.
The neighborhood sits along well-traveled main roads and is easy to reach by public transport. Those arriving by car will find parking along side streets, though it can fill up during busy hours.
Although the area is strongly associated with jewelry trade, it also holds places of worship from different religious communities sitting side by side along the same streets. This everyday mix of commerce and community life is something a visitor can notice simply by walking through the neighborhood.
