Thamarassery, human settlement in India
Thamarassery is a settlement in Kozhikode district of Kerala. The town center has small shops, colorful market stalls, and a mix of old and new buildings, while the surrounding area features farmland and green landscapes.
Thamarassery was once part of the Kingdom of Kottayam, where the kings fought against the British, and their graves can still be seen at the local temple. The region developed as an agricultural center and housed Kerala's first rubber estate.
The name Thamarassery comes from local language words meaning "lotus" and "village". The community celebrates festivals with music, dance, and traditional food, and these occasions bring people together to share their roots and way of life.
The town is easily reached by bus, with regular services to Kozhikode and nearby cities. The nearest international airport is about 56 kilometers away, and you can explore the area on foot or by public transport.
A local warrior named Payyampally Chandu, whose tomb is at the main temple, is embedded in the region's stories and remembered for his bravery in serving the Kottayam king. These tales are passed down to children to teach them courage and loyalty.
