Kishau Dam, Hydroelectric power station and gravity dam near Samberkhera, India
The Kishau Dam is a concrete hydroelectric structure built across the Tons River where Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand meet. The facility harnesses the river's flow through a series of turbines positioned within the main barrier.
The project received construction approval in 2018 following prolonged negotiations between the two states over water allocation. Its development resulted from regional plans to increase power generation and manage river resources in the Himalayas.
The project supports agricultural development in both states while providing essential water resources to India's National Capital Delhi through the Yamuna River system.
The site sits in remote mountainous terrain in the Himalayan foothills with limited visitor access to the structure itself. Reaching the location can be challenging during heavy rains or the monsoon season when roads become difficult to traverse.
The dam creates a reservoir with 1,824 million cubic meters capacity, positioned 39 kilometers north of Dakpathar and upstream from the existing Ichari Dam.
