National Media Centre, New Delhi, Government media venue on Raisina Road, New Delhi, India
The National Media Centre is a government venue on Raisina Road with a modern glass-facade building set on 1.95 acres. The four-story structure houses specialized communication facilities including a main press conference hall and multiple briefing rooms.
The project began in 2001 under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was inaugurated in 2013 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It was built to create a dedicated space where government communications could be disseminated to the media and public systematically.
This is where government announcements reach the Indian public and journalists come to gather official information daily. The Press Information Bureau uses these facilities to maintain a formal line of communication between government departments and the media.
The main press hall seats around 283 people with full wireless internet and modern audio-visual equipment throughout. A separate smaller briefing room accommodates around 60 participants and provides flexibility for smaller gatherings and interviews.
The building was constructed by the National Buildings Construction Corporation drawing design inspiration from established media centers in Washington and Tokyo. This international approach created a blend of proven global standards with India-specific communication needs.
