Hancock Bridge, Mumbai, Railway bridge in Sandhurst Road area, Mumbai, India
The Hancock Bridge spans 64.6 meters across railway tracks, connecting the neighborhoods of Dongri and Mazgaon in central Mumbai.
Built in 1879 and named after Colonel H. F. Hancock, the original bridge served the city for 137 years before its demolition in 2016.
The bridge reconstruction project reflects Mumbai's continuous evolution, balancing infrastructure needs with the daily requirements of local residents.
The new structure will provide improved clearance for railway electrification systems, allowing trains to operate with 25,000-volt AC power.
Reconstruction costs amount to 52 crore rupees, with Sai Projects Mumbai Private Limited managing the engineering and construction process.
