Temple of Apollo Palatinus, Roman temple on Palatine Hill, Italy
The Temple of Apollo Palatinus features white Carrara marble blocks, with a pronaos and columns extending along the exterior walls of the inner chamber.
Augustus initiated the temple's construction after a lightning strike on his property, dedicating the completed structure to Apollo on October 9, 28 BC.
The temple contained ivory doors, numerous sculptures, and two bas-reliefs depicting the Galatians' hunting from Delphi and artwork from sixth-century BC Chian artists.
The temple complex included two library halls with columns, serving as meeting spaces for the Roman Senate and storage for important documents.
The portico surrounding the temple displayed fifty black marble statues of the Danaids between yellow giallo antico marble columns.
