Zarqa Governorate, Governorate region northeast of Amman, Jordan
Zarqa Governorate spans 4,761 square kilometers of territory, encompassing industrial zones, urban centers, and eastern desert landscapes near the Saudi Arabian border.
The area transformed from a sparsely settled region into an industrial center after the Ottoman Empire constructed the Hedjaz railway connecting Damascus to Medina in 1900.
The region formed its identity through successive migrations, starting with Chechen settlers in 1902 and continuing with Palestinian communities arriving in 1948 and 1967.
The governorate contains extensive public transportation networks connecting its major cities, Zarqa and Russeifa, with regular service to the capital city of Amman.
The territory houses both the Azraq and Shaumari nature reserves while maintaining its position as Jordan's primary industrial manufacturing center.
