Zarqa Governorate, Governorate region northeast of Amman, Jordan
Zarqa Governorate is a region northeast of Amman, encompassing industrial zones, urban centers, and desert landscapes toward the Saudi Arabian border. The territory contains major cities and a mix of built-up areas with more open land stretching eastward.
The region remained sparsely populated until a railway connection catalyzed its transformation into a manufacturing and production center. This growth attracted different populations who settled in the area over time.
The region formed its identity through successive migrations, starting with Chechen settlers in 1902 and continuing with Palestinian communities arriving in 1948 and 1967.
The region is well connected by public transportation linking it to Amman and its main urban centers. Visitors can easily travel between different cities and explore the varied landscape.
The region contains two nature reserves that protect important wildlife habitats and offer visitors access to natural spaces. These protected areas form an interesting contrast to the surrounding industrial landscape.
