Al-Karak

Al-Karak sits on a triangular plateau 930 meters above sea level, with its castle positioned at the southern point overlooking the Dead Sea.

The Crusaders constructed the fortified citadel in 1132, which later fell to Muslim forces in 1188 following the Battle of Hattin.

The city holds both Muslim and Christian communities, with buildings from the Ottoman period surrounding the central castle complex.

Located 140 kilometers south of Amman along the King's Highway, Al-Karak contains multiple restaurants specializing in traditional Jordanian cuisine.

The fortress walls contain inscription remains from the Iron Age, indicating continuous settlement dating back to the ancient Moabite civilization.
