Qasr Bshir

Qasr Bshir is a Roman fortress in Amman Governorate built with thick stone walls, towers, and multiple inner chambers arranged in a rectangular layout. The structure sits at about 800 meters elevation and displays typical Roman military construction methods.

The fortress was built as part of the Limes Arabicus, serving as a key military outpost along the eastern boundary of the Roman Empire. It was constructed during Rome's period of strengthening control over border regions and trade routes.

The site reveals how Roman soldiers and local communities lived alongside each other through pottery and everyday objects left behind. These traces show the daily interactions that happened within and around the fortification.

The site welcomes visitors year-round with guided tours available through local archaeological organizations. Bring sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, as the terrain is uneven.
