Date, Municipal museum in Date, Japan

The Date City Museum of History and Culture stands at Umemoto-cho, displaying collections from the Jomon period through modern times across multiple exhibition halls.

The Date clan, which originated from Fukushima during the 12th century, established this settlement in southern Hokkaido following the Meiji Restoration in 1869.

The museum exhibits artifacts representing both indigenous Ainu communities and samurai traditions, with dedicated sections exploring regional textile production and local customs.

Visitors can reach the museum by taking the JR Hokkaido train to Date station, followed by a 10-minute walk through the historic district.

The facility maintains the sole indigo production operation in Hokkaido, offering hands-on dyeing workshops where participants create traditional textiles.
